Familiar Territory

I use my art to capture the memories of place and peace, of history and stories, of time and timelessness. Water and light, both literally and figuratively, run throughout my work. Water symbolizes elements of our lives from birth to death. Calm and soothing or powerful and dangerous. Light can be warm and soft or cold and harsh. Both are necessary for life; the absence of which defines death.
The choice of oil and cold wax for painting yields a rich layering and a level of fluidity natural to the material. Concealing and revealing, I abstract the subject enough to be open to interpretation, yet still referring to certain times and places.
